In a world still reeling from the trauma of October 7, the Genesis Friends for Life Global Foundation is lighting a path forward—uniting communities around healing, remembrance, and hope. This March, the Foundation is hosting two heartfelt events in Florida, bringing together supporters of the global Jewish community for evenings of compassion, connection, and meaningful impact.

From Boca Raton to Miami Beach, these gatherings are more than fundraisers—they are beacons of solidarity for orphans and widows whose lives were shattered by violence. They are also bold affirmations of Jewish pride through the Foundation’s continued sponsorship of the 2025 Maccabiah Games, the largest Jewish athletic event in the world.

Two Nights, One Purpose

The first evening takes place Tuesday, March 25, at the Bocaire Country Club in Boca Raton, followed by a second event on Thursday, March 27, at J’adore on Miami Beach’s iconic Ocean Drive. Each night offers more than cocktails and hors d’oeuvres—it offers a chance to stand with the most vulnerable members of our global family.

Adding to the excitement in Boca Raton, the March 25th event will host three celebrated Paris Olympic medalists as special guests: Inbar Lanir (Judo silver medalist), Raz Hershko (Judo silver medalist), and Timna Nelson-Levy (Judo bronze medalist). Their presence not only honors excellence in sport but also embodies the spirit of resilience and Jewish pride that defines both the Maccabiah Games and the Genesis mission.

Proceeds from these events will directly support:
- Orphans and bereaved families impacted by the October 7 attacks, including the 100 orphans sponsored by Genesis Friends for Life to attend the games
- The Maccabiah Games, which this July will welcome over 10,000 Jewish athletes from more than 80 countries to Israel
A Bridge Between Remembrance and Resilience

One Sabbath in Sderot: A Story of Resilience and Hope Amidst Unthinkable Tragedy

On October 7, 2023, the world bore witness to unspeakable acts of violence that changed lives forever. Among the many stories of devastation and courage to emerge from that day, the story of one family in Sderot stands as a testament to resilience, faith, and the indomitable human spirit. One Sabbath in Sderot, a short documentary film presented by Genesis Friends for Life Global Foundation, captures the harrowing reality of that day and the unwavering strength of those who survived.

In the city of Sderot, located near the Gaza border, the Megira family’s lives were forever altered by the loss of a devoted husband and loving father, Avi Megira. The documentary, directed with deep sensitivity and respect for the family’s experience, recounts the events of that morning through firsthand testimonies, capturing the raw emotion, fear, and faith that guided them through the ordeal.

Mr. Megira’s son, Shaked, recounts that his father rode a motorcycle as a hobby and often went on Saturday morning motorcycle trips with a group of bikers. On October 7, 2023, his father went on a trip with his group. As they were leaving Sderot, they encountered Hamas terrorists riding in pickup trucks. The terrorists shot Avi in the head, killing him and several other bikers, and continued into the city of Sderot on a planned killing spree.

They shot everyone in their path as they drove toward the Sderot police station and nearby residential buildings. The terrorists took control of the police station. After a prolonged battle, a tank arrived and fired several shells at the station, finally managing to overpower and neutralize the terrorists.

Following the terrible circumstances forced onto the Megira family, the documentary follows the commemoration of Avi Megira and the impact war has had on Michal, the mother and widow, and her children Ori, Ilai, Shalev, and Shaked.

Legacy in Craft: Solange Pot’s Gift to the Megera Children

At the heart of this year’s Genesis Friends for Life Global Foundation’s One-Year Memorial Gala, Solange Pot, a celebrated writer and Holocaust educator, will unveil beautiful handcrafted Legacy Boxes—a tribute to resilience, memory, and interfaith understanding. Flying in from Belgium for the November 21 event in Miami, Solange will present the largest of these exquisite pieces for auction and another four to the Megera children, honoring their loss and the enduring strength of their family.

A Craft Rooted in Memory

Solange Pot’s Legacy Boxes are more than mere objects. Crafted by a craftsman with precision and rich symbolism, they feature intricate marquetry, utilizing thuya wood and embellished with the Star of David—a motif symbolizing hope and unity. These boxes serve as vessels of remembrance, bridging past and present. Solange’s inspiration stems from her family’s own stories during the Holocaust, and she has dedicated her life to educating people of all faiths about the atrocities of that era.

Solange has written a novel about this story, which will be published in 2025.

Crafted according to her vision, the legacy boxes are embodiments of history. The thuya wood, carefully chosen for its imperfections, mirrors the journey of healing—transforming pain into beauty.

Educating Through Art

Solange has collaborated with institutions such as Yad Vashem, donating critical Holocaust-era artifacts to ensure that the stories of survivors are preserved for future generations. Her mission extends beyond education—her project fosters community dialogue and understanding. In a world fraught with division, craftsmanship can inspire unity and reflection.

The boxes are framed with the “golden section,” a divine ratio said to imprint harmony on the human spirit. These Legacy Boxes, each bearing unique inscriptions and designs, will now carry the stories of the Megera children, creating a tangible connection to their past and a source of strength for their future.

“Each box is the faithful reproduction of an ancient box, steeped in history,” Solange said. “The original was entrusted to my grandparents by a couple of Jewish friends who were forced to leave Belgium during the Second World War. Unfortunately, the couple never returned. My grandparents, then my parents, carefully preserved their property.”

As fate would have it, the original box was returned to the Community through her marriage. Her children were raised in the traditions of Judaism, and when my eldest was doing his Bar Mitzvah, she entrusted him with the box with the recommendation to keep it preciously and then pass it on to his descendants in memory of the missing.

“This precious object has become a material support of memory, the symbol of the survival and durability of the Jewish people,” Solange said. “May many pass this torch on to their children, who will in turn pass it on to future generations, creating a chain of memory that is both community and family. May these boxes be a guardian of family history, and World History.

At the gala, these Legacy Boxes will commemorate the Megera family’s story and symbolize the ongoing commitment of Genesis Friends for Life to support those affected by the tragedy. Solange’s dedication to weaving art, memory, and education into these creations aligns perfectly with the foundation’s mission to inspire healing and resilience.

Honoring the One-Year Memorial of the October 7 Massacre: Genesis Business Humanity Club and Genesis Friends for Life Global Foundation Launch Memorial Gala Event to Support Orphans and Widows
September 6, 2024 – Miami, Florida; Tel Aviv, Israel – The Genesis Business Humanity Club, in collaboration with the Genesis Friends for Life Global Foundation, is proud to announce its one-year memorial of the horrific massacre on October 7, 2023 with a memorial gala which will take place on November 21, 2024 in Miami. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the orphans and widows impacted by the terrorist attacks on Israel by Hamas.

The Genesis Friends for Life Global Foundation is dedicated to identifying, serving, and continuously supporting the Genesis family of orphans as they navigate through trauma and tragedy, supporting them and their mothers as they grow into adulthood.

This year’s event will highlight the impact of The Doron Grant for Life program, named for Doron Aviman, which represents a precise and comprehensive approach to supporting orphans that offers them more than just short-term relief. Going beyond traditional care, the objective of this platform is to provide comprehensive educational and emotional support, as well as career opportunities, particularly in the Israeli tech sector.

The Doron Grant for Life is a groundbreaking program that seeks to turn the tragedy of loss into a beacon of hope. The program’s core mission is to provide every participating orphan with training, long-term academic and technological support, and the development of self-leadership and community leadership skills. The goal is to ensure that these orphans can achieve financial independence and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

Key objectives of the Doron Grant for Life program include:
- Providing continuous financial support throughout the educational journey, from elementary school to university.
- Offering mental and emotional support to strengthen resilience and self-confidence.
- Ensuring that 100% of participating orphans achieve high academic standards, including matriculation certificates and bachelor’s degrees.
- Facilitating the integration of orphans into professions that secure their financial independence.
“The brutality and shock of what happened last October is still very present, and we have rallied to bring comfort, resources, and long-term support to children orphaned and families whose lives have been shattered,” said Dr. Lior Aviman, CEO of Genesis Friends for Life Israel. “Our mission, especially through the Doron Grant for Life program, is to ensure that these children do not remain victims but become leaders and contributors to society. We are committed to turning darkness into light, sadness into joy, and despair into hope.”

“For nearly twenty years, our group of friends and network of business colleagues have been supporting orphans in Israel through Simcha Connection, ensuring those young people have access to education, religious education, bar mitzvahs and bat mitzvahs and more,” said Eli Dalfin, Chief Operating Officer of the Foundation, who also founded the partner organization in Miami and has grown it for two decades. “The horrific terrorism that occurred on October 7th sends a strong signal to the world that Israel and Israeli’s are living with an existential threat, and that we all must do what we can to ensure the children and families impacted by violence have what the need to heal and move forward.”

Funds raised will directly support the implementation of the Doron Grant for Life program, ensuring that each orphan receives the comprehensive support they need to thrive.

Nandy Serrano, CEO and Founder of both Diamond Private Wealth Group and, currently, Clubhouse Private Wealth, has undergone an incredibly successful career in financial planning. Raising two huge-scale companies from nothing to the forefront of the wealth management industry across the last decade, Serrano has worked to achieve the utmost holistic and comprehensive consulting process.
